Robert W. Burns, CFP®

Branch Manager | Senior Vice President/Investments

I am passionate about helping people, and I consider myself fortunate to have a career that affords me the opportunity to have a positive impact on my clients. Over my 30-year career, I have sought to make the goals of our clients our purpose by implementing sound investment strategies based on logic over emotion, and structure over prediction, along with discipline, consistency, and patience. I have always believed that knowledge is an important facet of my success. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Finance from California State University, Long Beach, and hold the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP ®) and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF ® ) professional certications. I also continue my education by taking courses, attending conferences, and reading articles and books related to my chosen profession. I am a member of the Estate Planning Council of South Orange County and have served as its president.

Throughout my career, I have enjoyed taking on leadership roles, including serving as a branch manager. In 2008, my team and I joined Stifel with the opening of the San Juan Capistrano office. My leadership role has also been evident in my community activities. In 1991, I became a member of San Clemente Rotary, where I have served in many board positions, including my current role as community service board member. The committee provides students scholarships, leadership training, mentoring, and tutoring opportunities. I am also the chairperson of South Coast Singer's Stars of Tomorrow vocal competition.

My wife, Sandra, and I have lived in San Clemente for more than 25 years and are enjoying our empty-nesters status. We look forward to one day being doting grandparents, but for now, I am content in keeping very busy with my many interests. I am a part-time professional actor and enjoy studying acting, doing improv, singing, and ballroom dancing. I also enjoy gardening, hiking, cooking, movies, and live theater, and lastly, I love spending a lot of time with my friends, family, and clients.

I joined the Burns Investment Group in 2013, and it has been a pleasure helping clients pursue their financial goals. I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration - Finance. After working for an investment company in Chicago for three years, I took the opportunity to move back to my hometown of San Clemente and join the Burns Investment Group. Since joining, I've developed a passion for creating investment plans, conducting portfolio reviews, and educating my clients on personal finance and retirement planning.

In my personal time, I enjoy going to the beach, watching hockey, playing games, reading graphic novels, visiting friends, volunteering, and learning new things. In the past few years, I've developed a renewed passion for playing basketball.  It was my favorite sport to play as a child, and as an adult I can respect the discipline it takes to play at an elite level as well as develop the legs and strength to cope with playing the game.

I have been in the brokerage industry for more than 25 years, and I am excited to be a part of the Burns Investment Group of Stifel. I have loved working with Robert over the last 10 years and look forward to serving our clients in a branch operations capacity. I enjoy working closely with our clients and to help ensure that accounts and client requests are processed in a timely and efficient manner.

Great follow-through has always been a strong suit of mine, and I feel fortunate to find myself in a position that plays to this strength. I am honored to be an integral member of such a great team and to be able to use my experience and extensive knowledge of brokerage accounts and branch operations daily.

When I am not at work, I enjoy spending my time hiking, going to the theatre, and vacationing to my favorite places in the world, such as Palm Springs, Milan, and Hawaii. I currently reside in Laguna Beach with my husband, Daniel.

As the newest member of the Burns Investment Group, I am eager to learn as much as possible from Robert, Noah and May. While I have a little background in business, finance is both an exciting and relatively uncharted territory for me. The entire experience so far has been challenging, stressful, and awesome all at the same time. Every day presents new challenges and I gladly welcome the opportunity to put myself to the test.

After spending the last five years in the restaurant industry, I would like to use my experiences with hospitality and customer service to better serve our clients and build strong foundations for long-lasting relationships.
